Elizebeth Smith Friedman - the woman you are
I feel rage, as a woman and as someone who has been heavily bullied at school so when I grew up, slowly, I learnt to speak up and stand for myself. I clap back whenever someone tries to condescend or look down to me. I clarified and asked instead of letting unimportant stuffs go. There are trivial matters that are not worth our energy and time. Most people will let go. In short, don't sweat small stuff.
From the book, I learnt about obsessing and doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Elizebeth worked in secretive job as cryptoanalyst. She deciphered code and somebody else (a man) get the credit just because she must comply with confidentiality.
I cried at the end because the story of William F. Friedman, the board game he created that never saw the light, their love story and devotion to each other.
Elizebeth's perseverance and her never sought credit is something I could never be – and forever strive to be.
